The fifth excavation and restoration campaign has revealed new rooms, floors and artefacts from a unique late medieval and Baroque rural dwelling in Menorca.

 

The excavation confirms the site's significance during the medieval period and provides new insights into everyday life in the Andalusi alqueria.

This year’s campaign combined excavation, conservation and training, with the participation of university students and volunteers from Menorca and across Spain.

The intervention has fully restored the largest structure within the archaeological site and has provided new insights into Talayotic architecture.

The initiative has revealed monumental structures that, until now, were only known through archaeological mapping carried out in the 1970s by Mascaró Pasarius.

This archaeological intervention has been made possible thanks to the support of the Island Council, which will increase the excavation budget to 500,000 euros.

The latest work carried out around Talayot 1 has brought to light several remarkable finds, including a small askos, a bowl with a raised handle, and a handmade ceramic set that may be linked to a foundation ritual.

On Tuesday, 18 November, Amalia Pérez-Juez (Boston University) and Octavio Torres Gomariz (University of Barcelona) presented at the National Archaeological Museum the latest research on the Andalusi reoccupation of the talayotic site of Torre d’en Galmés. 

Entre Illes project, "Among Islands", is an initiative promoted by the Friends Association of the Manacor History Museum, with the support of the Consell Insular de Menorca.

Archaeologist Sonia Carbonell has just published Arquitectura funeraria postalayótica. Las necrópolis de cuevas artificiales de Menorca, a monograph that delves into one of the most distinctive elements of Menorca’s archaeological landscape.

The excavation campaign at Sa Mitja Lluna came to an end on 30 August, marking an important milestone in the archaeological research of this prehistoric mining site. This campaign is the first of the second five-year project led by the ArqueoUIB group in collaboration with the University of Seville.

This morning the co-directors of the project, Borja Corral and Carlos de Salort, presented the results of the campaign accompanied by the director of Cultural Affairs, Jaume Reurer, and the director of Torralba, Rafael Durán.
