acto trepucó20 Sep

The Consell Insular de Menorca is pleased to announce the events commemorating the first anniversary of the declaration of Talayotic Menorca as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This distinction, awarded on 18 September 2023, recognises the uniqueness and universal value of the island's Talayotic archaeological heritage, and reinforces Menorca's commitment to the protection and promotion of its prehistoric legacy.

Commemorative event in Trepucó - 20 September, 8 p.m.

The Talayotic settlement of Trepucó will be the setting for a commemorative event, open to the public (prior registration required, bus transport), with the following programme:

Lecture by Dr. Manuel Calvo, professor of Prehistory at the UIB, on the challenges of Talayotic Menorca one year after its nomination.

For more than 20 years, Calvo has been researching and working on issues related to the archaeological heritage of the Balearic Islands, both in terms of research and in terms of management and dissemination. He has been principal investigator on numerous national and international projects and is head of the ArqueoUIB research group.

As a result of this work, he has published numerous books and articles in leading international scientific journals. He has also participated in different archaeological heritage management and dissemination projects, including the creation of the Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park in Calvià (Mallorca) and his participation in different projects with the Department of Tourism. Finally, it is worth mentioning that he has been a member of different commissions linked to Talayotic Menorca, both in the process of creating both candidatures and once it has been declared a World Heritage Site.

- Screening of the mapping ‘Entre el cel i la mar’ (Between the sky and the sea):

Produced by the Talayotic Menorca Agency and the company iluminaM, the show will cover the genesis and evolution of Menorca's Talayotic culture, from the Bronze Age to its decline with the Roman occupation of the island ( 123 BC), and will end by explaining the historical legacy that survives today.

- Tasting of Talaiòtica beer:

Archaeologist Montserrat Anglada and master brewer Roger Vila will explain the process for creating this particular beer, the result of analysis and research into one of the most emblematic objects of the Talayotic culture: the tall-bottomed vessel, a unique and exclusive object from Menorcan prehistory that we place in the late Talayotic period, between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC.
