Presentation of Tauli, the new talayotic mascot of Menorca

TauliTalayotic Menorca, declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 2023, takes a new step in the promotion of its cultural heritage with the official presentation of the mascot Tauli. This endearing cuddly toy, inspired by the iconic Talayotic taulas, was unveiled today, November 21, at a meeting at the Consell Insular headquarters between the conseller of Cultural Affairs and president of the Talayotic Menorca Agency; Joan Pons Torres; the island's Director of Cultural Affairs, Jaume Reurer; the creator of the toy, Ivan Khanet; and the director of the Talayotic Menorca Agency, Antoni Ferrer Rotger.

A tribute to Talayotic Menorca

Designed by Menorcan art director Ivan Khanet, Tauli seeks to connect new generations and lovers of Menorca with the island's cultural wealth. This toy is not just a decorative object, but a tangible tribute to Talayotic Menorca, the first promotional product specifically conceived to promote and pay tribute to this valuable historical legacy.

Tauli's design is inspired by the taulas, unique monuments in the world that are distinctive symbols of Talayotic Menorca. Its creation has been possible thanks to the public-private collaboration between the Consell Insular de Menorca/Talayotic Menorca Agency and the creator of the toy, Ivan Khanet. The economic investment for the creation of this product is exclusively private, but the Consell Insular has advised on the creation of the toy and the didactic booklet, and has authorised the use of the Talayotic Menorca logo. In return, the Consell will be able to purchase the toy at a reduced price. The support for this initiative reflects the institutional commitment to the promotion of local culture.

In the words of the conseller Pons Torres: ‘Tauli symbolises our rich cultural heritage and represents an innovative tool for making Menorca and its history known to the world. It is also an example of how historical heritage can contribute to the island's economic development’. For his part, Antoni Ferrer stressed: ‘With initiatives like Tauli we strengthen public-private collaboration, which is essential for the dissemination of Talayotic Menorca’.

An educational tool

Together with the cuddly toy the project includes an educational booklet, available in physical and digital format, which aims to bring the history of Talayotic Menorca to children in a playful way. This material can be downloaded free of charge from www.taulimenorca.com and comes with each purchase of a Tauli. According to Ivan Khanet, promoter of the project, ‘we want Tauli to be present not only in homes, but also in classrooms, promoting knowledge of our cultural heritage’.

From March 2025 Tauli will available at the information points of Torre d'en Galmés and Naveta des Tudons, sites managed by the Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca. Online orders can be placed at www.taulimenorca.com
