The Talayotic Menorca Agency has received a
grant of 40,984.08 euros from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Sports. The Agency submitted a project to the call for grants for the conservation, protection and dissemination of World Heritage Sites for 2024.
The aid will be used to improve the signage and information of the archaeological sites of Talayotic Menorca, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023.
The project, with a total budget of 56,725.37 euros, includes actions such as improving road signs and updating information panels at the sites. It also contemplates the installation of plaques commemorating the inscription on the World Heritage List at the inscribed sites, a measure that is a UNESCO requirement. These initiatives seek to reinforce the dissemination of the Talayotic heritage and improve the visitor experience.
Among the planned actions, the following stand out:
-
Road signage: manufacture and installation of new signs with World Heritage pictograms.
- Updating of information panels: Incorporation of supports and vinyls with renewed and accessible information.
-
Commemorative plaques: Installation of plaques at the sites, highlighting their recognition by UNESCO.
The
Consell Insular de Menorca will be responsible for the remaining 8,508.81 euros of the total cost of the project. The actions will be completed before 15 June 2025, with justification within three months thereafter. Joan Pons Torres, president of the Talayotic Menorca Agency and conseller of Cultural Affairs, stressed that ‘these actions are essential to ensure the preservation and dissemination of our unique heritage, while reinforcing our commitment to culture and sustainable tourism in Menorca’.
