The Consell Insular de Menorca is participating on January 30 and 31 in the meeting of the Alliance of Cultural Landscapes and Related World Heritage Sites, held in Aranjuez. This meeting seeks to establish a
common political strategy to continue strengthening the positioning of the member sites. Representing the Consell are the president of the Talayotic Menorca Agency and conseller of Cultural Affairs, Joan Pons Torres, along with the vice president and conseller of Environment and Biosphere Reserve, Simón Gornés.
The meeting was inaugurated by the mayor of Aranjuez, Miguel Gómez, and the conseller of the Presidency of the Consell Insular de Mallorca, Antoni Fuster, representing the Serra de Tramuntana, which currently holds the presidency of the Alliance. During these two days, the highest political representatives of each associated site are designing
medium and long-term action plans to boost the Alliance. In addition to the working sessions, participants have also enjoyed a guided tour of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez and the Parterre and Island Gardens.
"This is the first political meeting of the 13 members that make up this institution. We have laid the foundations to redefine the Alliance's strategy with the aim of establishing collaborations and concrete actions to position our World Heritage territories. We want to strengthen the Alliance so that it has greater influence in the context of international cultural heritage," stated the conseller of Cultural Affairs, Joan Pons Torres.
The Alliance of Cultural Landscapes and Related World Heritage Sites, headquartered in Aranjuez, is an association that brings together
13 landscapes and sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It has the support and recognition of the Spanish Ministry of Culture and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and is part of the European Network of World Heritage Site Associations.
In the past 12 months, the Alliance has incorporated new sites related to World Heritage, such as the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon, the Vizcaya Bridge, Talayotic Menorca, and the Dolmens of Antequera.
The participation of the Consell Insular de Menorca in this meeting reaffirms its commitment to the preservation and promotion of the island's cultural heritage, as well as its involvement in collective initiatives aimed at strengthening collaboration between World Heritage sites.
