Seminars: Talayotic Menorca at Universitat Catalana d'Estiu

talatí de dalt20 Aug

‘Talayotic Menorca, a world heritage in a constant process of research’ is the title of the course that the Universitat Catalana d'Estiu is dedicating this year to our prehistoric heritage. Organised by the Institut Menorquí d'Estudis, the course is coordinated by Amalia Pérez Juez and Antoni Ferrer, director of the Talayotic Menorca Agency.

Part of the prehistoric remains of the island of Menorca were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in September 2023, under the name of Talayotic Menorca. The inscribed property is not limited to archaeological sites, but is made up of nine large territorial areas, totalling an area of 35 km2.

These nine components include the main settlements and funerary spaces of the Talayotic period and its preceding period, which are located between 1600 BC and the Roman conquest. The nine areas mentioned also cover part of the territory in which the settlements and burial sites are located. The proliferation of these elements contributed to the creation of a peculiar landscape, which can still be perceived today. All of this heritage is currently the subject of intense research activity.
