Talayotic Menorca in Gran Canaria with the Alliance of Cultural Landscapes

toni ferrer gran canaria Antoni Ferrer, director of the Talayotic Menorca Agency, and the island's director of Cultural Affairs, Tiago Reurer, travelled to Gran Canaria to attend the monographic workshop ‘Alliance of Cultural Landscapes and Related World Heritage Sites: The involvement of local communities in the management of cultural landscapes’ on October 24 and 25, organised by the Canary Island corporation in its capacity as a member of the Alliance.

This meeting brings together specialists from the Balearic Islands, Galicia, Catalonia, Andalusia and Gran Canaria itself, where they share experiences on the involvement of local communities, which is considered fundamental for the co-responsible and coherent management of World Heritage Sites. Antoni Ferrer gave a lecture entitled ‘A world heritage of 35 km². Public-private collaboration in Talayotic Menorca’.

The Alliance of Cultural Landscapes and Related Sites is an initiative that aims to bring together different cultural landscapes and related sites, which illustrate the evolution of society and human settlements over the years, under the influence of the constraints and/or advantages presented by the natural environment, and of internal and external social, economic and cultural forces to create a joint work of man and nature of exceptional universal value.
