Course: Landscape Archaeology at UIMIR

umir 202531 Jan

This course offers an introduction to the fundamental aspects of the discipline, including its definition, objectives, and the application of digital technologies to the study of the past. Through various sessions, different case studies are presented that demonstrate how ancient societies organized their landscapes and how these can be analyzed today. Special attention is also given to the reconstruction of plant landscapes and their interaction with human communities.

Particular emphasis is placed on the application of landscape archaeology in the Balearic Islands, with a specific focus on Menorca's landscape and its relevance to the Menorca Talayotic candidacy as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In this context, the importance of archaeological heritage management is discussed, as well as how landscape archaeology can contribute to articulating new narratives about past communities.

The course also includes a visit to the archaeological sites of Naveta des Tudons and Cornia Nou, where students will see how theoretical content is translated into Menorca's landscape.

This training is aimed at academics, professionals, and students interested in archaeology, heritage management, and landscape studies, offering a framework for reflection and the application of new narratives in research and cultural management.
