Improvements at the Torre d’en Galmés Interpretation Centre
The Torre d’en Galmés Interpretation Centre has been helping visitors better understand Menorca’s most iconic Talayotic settlement for nearly twenty years. Throughout this time, its contents have been progressively updated and improved.
Recently, new replicas of objects discovered at the site since the centre first opened have been added to the exhibition. These include a large decorated cup and a lidded container from the 3rd century BCE, now joining the reproductions already on display. These pieces were found inside a dwelling excavated by the Amics del Museu de Menorca association between 2005 and 2010 and are thought to have had symbolic importance for the inhabitants of the house. This interpretation is based on the careful decoration of the items and their prominent location within the home. The original objects are held at the Museu de Menorca.
The replicas were created by Bruno Parés, who developed 3D models of the items, printed them using a 3D printer, and hand-painted them to achieve a finish virtually identical to the originals.
These reproductions aim to offer visitors a first glimpse of the remarkable artefacts of Talayotic culture and to encourage them to visit the Museu de Menorca, where a wide range of original objects is on display and visitors can learn much more about the island’s prehistory.
In addition, several of the centre’s interior panels have been renewed and updated, and improvements have also been made to the outdoor signage and information displays.
The Interpretation Centre is jointly managed by the Consell Insular de Menorca–Agència Menorca Talaiòtica and the Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca.
