Taula enclosures are buildings from the Second Iron Age that are unique to Menorca and have always aroused the interest of locals, travellers, scholars and academics for centuries. Thanks to several archaeological excavation projects carried out during the 20th century, we now know that they were cultural spaces in which communities performed a series of rituals in honour of their deities, as was found in the taula enclosures of Torre d'en Galmés, Trepucó, Torralba d'en Salort, So na Caçana and Binissafullet.
In 2015, a new research project started focusing on the excavation of the taula enclosure of the Sa Cudia Cremada settlement (Maó), an ongoing project that aims to provide new data on these religious spaces. Between 2018 and 2019 the excavation of the exterior of the façade of the taula enclosure of Torralba d'en Salort was carried out, with the aim of collecting data on the use of the exterior space of these sanctuaries. This talk will present the main characteristics and results of these projects.
