The prehistoric copper mine of Sa Mitja Lluna located on Illa d'en Colom is a site of special importance, not only for its exceptional conservation, but also for being currently the only known prehistoric mine in the Balearic Islands and one of the few preserved in southern Europe.

Radiocarbon dating confirms the beginning of mining in the first half of the second millennium BC. In addition, lead isotope analyzes performed on copper artifacts suggest that Sa Mitja Lluna, along with other Menorcan mines, were the main source of copper in the Balearic Islands during the second millennium BC.
It represents an exceptional case for the knowledge of the societies of the Bronze Age in the Mediterranean, especially the insular ones, and contributes an extraordinary example of the prehistoric mining technology used, without practically later anthropic alterations.
